The Statute of the Journal Politické vedy (Political Sciences)
The Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica in compliance with its deed of foundation and organizational rules issues the periodical Political Sciences – a reviewed scientific journal for political sciences, international relations, modern history and security studies. Journal issuing is managed by this Statute.
Article 1
General provisions
1. The mission of the journal Political Sciences is to present the outcomes of research in the field of political science, international relations, modern history and security studies.
2. The journal issues academic texts, original theoretical and research studies of Slovak as well as foreign authors regarding the issue of political science, international relations, modern history and security studies, which are oriented theoretically or empirically a which expand the knowledge base of the above mentioned academic fields.
3. Besides research studies the journal includes contributions to the discussion on current topics, analytic reviews of publications of home or foreign authors and actual information from the scientific community.
4. Contributions written in Slovak, Czech or English are being issued. Each scientific study and discussion contribution includes an abstract and key words in English. All contributions, except for reviews and information, are reviewed in an anonymous reviewing procedure.
5. The journal is issued regularly four times a year. Twice a year in an English version, twice a year in a Slovak version.
Article 2
Publisher of the journal
1. The Publisher of the Journal is the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Matej Bel University – Belianum, Matej Bel University Press.
2. On the essential conditions of issuing decides the Panel of the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. The Panel of the Dean:
a) decides on the commencement or cancellation of the journal issue
b) defines the extent and periodicity of the journal
c) determines the trend of the journal content
d) appoints the Editor in chief of the journal
e) within the realm of possibility allocates resources from the budget of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Matej Bel University, respectively obtains financial contributions for the activities of the journal from other resources and manages them responsibly.
Article 3
The Scientific Board of the journal
1. The Scientific Board of the journal is the organ cooperating with the Panel of the Dean, the Editor in chief and the editorial board of the journal.
2. The Scientific Board discusses and approves of the concepts and trend of content of the journal.
3. The head of the Scientific Board is the Dean of the Faculty.
4. The Scientific Board is appointed by the Dean of the Faculty after gaining the approval of the Panel of the Dean.
5. The Scientific Board of the journal has at least 15 members including its head. At least 60 % of the members of the editorial board cannot be in full-time employment of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica.
6. The Scientific Board is appointed for a four-year term.
7. Each member of the Scientific Board can request the Editor in chief on insight into any of the manuscripts being reviewed at that time.
8. The Scientific Board makes its decisions by an absolute majority of its present members.
9. Meeting of the Scientific Board of the journal is summoned and chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations.
10. The Scientific Board of the journal meets at least once a year.
Article 4
The editorial board of the journal
1. The editorial board of the journal consists of the Editor in chief, the Deputy Editor in chief and editors.
Article 5
The Editor in chief of the journal
1. The Editor in chief is appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations after the approval of the Panel of the Dean.
2. The Editor in chief is appointed for a four-year term.
3. The Editor in chief is responsible for the realisation of the set content and concept of the journal.
4. The Editor in chief manages the activities of the editorial office and convenes the meetings of the editorial board.
5. The Editor in chief represents the editorial board in the Panel of the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations and is in touch with other institutions.
6. The Editor in chief convenes the editorial board if necessary, but at least four times a year, always at the furthest 25 workdays before the issue of the journal.
7. The Editor in chief submits once a year a Report on the activities of the editorial Office to the Panel of the Dean and on the fulfillment on the determined content and concept of the journal.
8. The Editor in chief has the right to refuse an article, if the editorial board decides that it does not fulfill the criteria, which are defined for publication in the journal and which are required for a scientific or an academic article or it does not fit the profile of political science, international relations, security studies, modern history, respectively or related fields of social sciences.
9. The Editor in chief takes into account ethical principles when allocating contributions for critical review of the members of the Scientific Board, editorial board or other external experts.
10. The Editor in chief cooperates with the editors at the preparation of the particular issues of the journal.
11. The Editor in chief can if necessary entrust her/his deputies with the execution of chosen tasks.
Article 6
Deputy Editor in chief of the journal
1. The deputy editor in chief is appointed by the Editor in chief after the approval of the Panel of the Dean.
2. She/he is appointed for a four-year term.
3. Based on the mandate of the Editor in chief she/he executes entrusted tasks resulting from Article 5 of this Statute.
Article 7
Editors of the journal
1. The editors are appointed by the Editor in chief, who determines their individual tasks.
2. The editors in cooperation with the coworkers of the editorial Office (finishers, translators, reviewers) ensure the preparation of the journal.
3. The editors are responsible for adherence to the approved indicators (scope, periodicity and others) and agreed deadlines.
4. The editors in their work obey the instructions of the Editor in chief and the Deputy editor in chief.
5. The editors provide for the communication with the authors and reviewers.
Article 8
Judgment of manuscripts
1. The articles are reviewed in an anonymous reviewing procedure by at least two reviewers. As long as their opinions substantially differ, the editorial office determines a third reviewer.
2. The submitted manuscript has to fulfill the formal requirements, set for a scientific text listed in the "Instructions for the authors"(published on the website of the journal or sent on request).
3. On the reviewers decides the Editor in chief or her/his deputy.
4. The authors of the manuscript and the reviewers of the articles remain in a mutually anonymous relationship.
5. The author obtains a notification on the inclusion of her/his manuscript to the process of critical review and the outcome of the reviewing procedure generally in 2 month from the day of the delivery of the contribution.
6. The journal Political Sciences reserves the right to modify the received manuscripts.
7. Dealing with articles is in accordance with Ethical standards of the journal Political Sciences, which regulate relations among all participating parties in publication process: authors, the journal (publisher and editorial bodies), reviewers.
8. Deadline for receiving contributions to the journal has these rules: until September 15th are being received contributions that are going to be published in No. 1 edition of the upcoming calendar year. Until December 15th are being received contributions that are going to be published in No. 2 edition of the upcoming calendar year. Until March 15th are being received contributions that are going to be published in No. 3 edition of the actual calendar year. Until June 15th are being received contributions that are going to be published in No. 4 edition of the actual calendar year.
Article 9
Copyright
1. Copyright for the provided work for the journal Political Sciences is managed by a license agreement, which the authors sign by the submission of their contribution to the editorial Office of the journal.
2. The authors of the contributions, provided for the journal for publication declare that the sent texts are original and that they are aware of the possible consequences, if they violated the copyright of third parties and that they are obliged to replace the material damage.
3. The authors of the texts, which were accepted for publication, agree that these texts are going to be provided for online release on the website of the journal of Political Sciences.
4. The authors of the texts, which were accepted for publication, agree that these texts are going to be presented to third parties in order to release them in online databases.
Article 10
Final provision
1. This statute comes into force on the day the of the Dean´s signature and is a part of the documentation of the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica.
